Serve at Love of Christ: The life of our church, our worship, and our programs would not happen every week without our incredible volunteers! There are opportunities to serve helping in our front office, greeting folks on Sunday mornings, sharing your musical gifts with the congregation, helping with Vacation Bible School, and many, many other ways to serve.
Serve Our Local Community: We are blessed to be a blessing and making a difference outside our walls is an important part of values we hold as a community of folks following Christ. We work with numerous local organizations in the valley to provide relief and resources for our neighbors.
Serve the World: Being a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gives us a unique opportunity as a church community to reach out to our neighbors beyond our borders.

Opportunities to serve:
Sleep in Heavenly Peace:
There are over 6,000 children in the valley who are on a waiting list at Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and are currently sleeping on an air mattress, sofa or on the floor. Let's pitch in and make sure kids in our community have a place to lay their heads at night. SHP now has 326 chapters in the US, as well as chapters in Canada and Bermuda. SHP is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. (Federal ID: 46-4346568) "In Arizona, we have built and delivered more than 7,350 beds over the last six years”, said Joe Genovese, SHP's chapter president in Phoenix. “If a child needs a bed, we want to make sure they get one. “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!“

Building Beds for Kids in Need
Participating in an SHP Build Day is an exciting experience. There’s always something to do… from the moment you arrive, sign in, and get your safety gear until the last SHP logo is branded on the final headboard of the day. Volunteers – under the guidance of SHP Chapter team members – build bunks in an assembly line setup. There are stations for sawing, sanding, drilling, assembling, staining, and branding the wood. What started as a pile of raw lumber from the hardware store becomes ready-to-deliver bunks for kids in need.
Bed Deliveries
Newly built bunks serve no purpose until they’re delivered. As exciting and fun as building bunks can be, giving beds to kids is why we do what we do. Volunteers who help deliver beds see first-hand the direct impact their efforts have on a kid’s life. For some, it will be the first time they’ve ever slept in a bed of their own. We volunteer along with others as part of the group that delivers beds from the delivery hub at St Luke Lutheran church. Deliveries are usually on the third Saturday of the month, but we often have additional deliveries as need arises and volunteers are always needed. If you are interested, contact Jack or JoAnn Grant.Newly built bunks serve no purpose until they’re delivered. Bedding Donations
We welcome donations of new twin-size sheets (popular colors are white, grey, blue, navy, pink, purple, red, beige, or green and we have a preference for a cotton or cotton blend because they breathe better in our hot climate). We are always looking for stuffed toys and inspiring or funny books for kids from 3 to 17.
Blanket making of no-sew fleece blankets (instructions on the website and classes periodically) or sewn blankets is appreciated as well as quilts or store-bought blankets (twin size, length at 90”) which will help provide bedding for all the deliveries. All bedding and stuffed animals are new.
Donations
Each bed provided to a child is free and our cost is around $250.00 per bed, donations can be made either through Love of Christ, which will be used for bedding and sponsorship of a bed build, or you can donate directly to the SHP Phoenix Chapter.
